A Playground for Everyone
The new all-inclusive playground is designed to be a safe, accessible, and welcoming space that offers numerous physical and mental benefits for its users.
Key Features of the Playground:
- ADA-Accessible Swings: Including a toddler swing, a "Mommy and Me Swing," and swings for older children.
- Pour-in-Play Surface: A safe, sponge-like material that allows wheelchair navigation while absorbing falls.
- Inclusive Play Structures: Featuring a wheelchair ramp, audio and visual equipment, and multiple slides.
- Seating Areas: Four benches where parents and grandparents can relax while watching children play.
This playground will be a much-needed addition, as the nearest inclusive playgrounds are a 20–30-minute drive from Georgetown.
Promoting Inclusivity and Wellness
An all-inclusive playground is more than just a play area—it’s a symbol of community unity and diversity. Here’s how it benefits Georgetown:
- Fosters Cooperation: Encourages children to adapt their play style to accommodate peers, promoting understanding and problem-solving skills.
- Enhances Physical and Mental Health: Provides outdoor activities that combat sedentary lifestyles while boosting self-confidence for children with disabilities.
- Builds Community Connections: Serves as a gathering place for families, fostering relationships and a sense of belonging.
"When we invest in projects like this, we’re not just building playgrounds—we’re building connections, opportunities, and a shared sense of pride in our town."
— Mike Davenport
